The largest U.S. lottery jackpots have all been won in the past 4-years. Powerball lottery and Mega Millions lottery are
the two multi-state lottery games in the United States and as such they always have the largest lottery jackpots.
Powerball changed its rules in 2014 and raised its ticket prices to $2.00 per ticket. This resulted in larger jackpots for
the Powerball lottery. The four largest lottery jackpots in U.S. lottery history are reported as follows:
13 January 2016, $1.6 billion Powerball lottery
30 March 2012, $656 million Mega Millions Lottery
17 December 2013, $648 million Mega Millions Lottery
18 May 2013, $590 million Powerball lottery
Powerball and Mega Millions both have two of the top four spots, with Powerball owning the #1 lottery jackpot in U.S. history
