What good would you do with lottery millions?

Saturday, August 29, 2009 posted 01:54 AM EDT

Solomon Jackson, the South Carolina retiree who splurged on a $2 lottery ticket at his favorite gas station and won the $259.9 million Powerball lottery, says he plans to do good with his money. He'll give some to support education programs and, he added, "I won't do a bunch with it, but somebody's going to be blessed."

Already, at least one commenter on Alan Gomez's story has put in for some bucks. The nerve!

But let's just say you had the wisdom of Solomon -- Jackson and the biblical one. And, for discussions sake, you've got $100

million in your pocket after taxes. And like this man, you have the impulse to do some good with it. Folks are storming your doors with special requests. You've lined up a lawyer to protect you and advise you. Now what?

Would you tithe to your church, give zakat at the mosque, underwrite the charities that serve the poor, start a new fund to promote the arts? Would you want your name emblazoned on the side of the new clinic or mission or university building? Or would you rather give Maimonides-style, with your identity hidden and the funds going to help others support themselves? What about medical research?

WHAT'S YOUR ... fantasy way to do good?
