Two winners share $80m Powerball prize
Thursday, July 30, 2009 posted 11:12 AM EDT
At least two people will share the $80 million first division Powerball jackpot drawn on Thursday night.
The prize, the second largest in Australian lottery history, jackpotted when no winners claimed the $50 million first division
prize in last week's Powerball game.
Tattersall's spokeswoman Karen Anning said results from Queensland were yet to be collated but two winners had been identified
so far.
One entry was purchased on the lotto.com.au website. The other, from NSW, bought their ticket from an agency in western Sydney.
Last-minute punters queued on Thursday for lottery tickets in a bid to win the big prize.
The latest major lotto prize comes just weeks after an Adelaide man and a Queensland couple shared a record $106 million
prize from Oz Lotto.
That draw captured headlines as millions of Australians scrambled for tickets.
The previous Powerball jackpot record, $58.7 million, was shared by four workmates from Melbourne's north last year.
