Thursday, March 26, 2009 posted 09:56 AM EDT
(Powerball) Even though the grand prize was not hit Wednesday evening, Powerball had some huge winners. One ticket in Vermont
(1) matched all 5 white ball numbers with the Power Play for an incredible $1 million cash win! This is part of the new game
feature that guarantees a 5X multiplier on all match 5 white ball winners that also have the Power Play option pushing the
prize to $1 million cash. Two other lucky tickets sold in Florida (1), and New Hampshire (1), each won $200,000 cash by matching
all 5 white ball numbers!
The jackpot for the Saturday, March 28th drawing will be $94 million with the cash option at $51.3 million.
The numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 10, 20, 23, 47, 54, and the Powerball was 26. The Power Play multiplier was 2.
A whopping 26 tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Seven additional tickets of that prize
level had the Power Play and had the prize multiplied by 2 for a $20,000 cash win! A total of 594,523 tickets across the
nation won more than $4.8 million in prizes playing America’s favorite game.
A total of 120,043 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prize by 2 Wednesday. Players were able to do that by purchasing
the Power Play option for $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot.
At the beginning of each drawing an animated spinner presents each multiplier number.
Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens
of thousands of winners at other prize levels.
Players purchased $25,245,293 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.
The lotteries sold $2.56 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year 2008. That translates into over $743 million for worthwhile
state projects.
Powerball is now played in 30 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
