A winning lottery ticket worth $46 million was sold at a 7-Eleven store in Pacific Beach, state lottery officials announced
yesterday. They are now waiting for the lucky ticket holder to come forward.
The Mega Millions jackpot was won by one ticket, although it wasn't yet known if that ticket is held by a single winner or
a group.
The winning combination, announced Friday night, was 2, 11, 19, 21, 34 and the Mega number 38. Winners have 365 days to claim
their prize.
The owner of the 7-Eleven on Cass Street near Loring Street also came out a big winner, receiving a bonus of $230,000, or
half of 1 percent of the jackpot.
Owner Palvinder Hundal was awakened with the good news first thing yesterday morning. His brother, who was working at the
store, called him when lottery officials stopped by.
Hundal then came down to the store just to make sure it was all true.
“This is the first time this has happened to me. It's really exciting,” said Hundal, who bought the store three years
ago. “I'm really excited for the person who won and for the store. This is really good.”
Hundal plans to split part of his winnings with the store's employees and put away a big chunk for college for his two sons,
10 and 14.
“And maybe I'll have a nice party with family and friends, just make everybody happy,” Hundal added.
The winning ticket holder is encouraged to sign the ticket, put it in a safe place and contact lottery officials as soon
as possible.
A winner has the opportunity to choose the cash value of the jackpot within 60 days of the claim date.
