POWERBALL, Jul 17, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game continues to move. Even
though the grand prize was not awarded Wednesday evening, 11 lucky tickets in Kentucky (2), Louisiana (1), North Carolina
(1), New Hampshire (1), Pennsylvania (1), South Carolina (2), Tennessee (1), and West Virginia (2) matched all 5 white numbers
and won $200,000 cash each! In addition, 411,110 tickets across the nation won a total of $5,777,396 in prizes.
Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $43 million!
The cash option for the Saturday, July 19th drawing will be an estimated $21.4 million.
The numbers drawn Wednesday night were 3, 15, 23, 29, 42 and the Powerball was 17. The Power Play multiplier was 4.
Other prizes won Wednesday evening included 26 tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Six
additional tickets at this prize level were also wisely purchased with the Power Play option and multiplied winnings 4 times
to $40,000 cash!
A total of 87,063 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prizes by 4 Wednesday. Players were able to do that by purchasing
the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2 to 5 times, except for
the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.
Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens
of thousands of winners at other prize levels.
Players purchased $17,066,848 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.
The lotteries sold more than $2.65 billion in Powerball tickets in FY07. That translates into more than $768 million for
worthwhile state projects.
Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
