Powerball winning ticket sold in Denver metro area
Thursday, October 11, 2007 posted 10:39 AM EDT
A ticket sold in the Denver metro area matched all six numbers in the Powerball jackpot Wednesday night — the first time
a Powerball winning ticket has been sold in the state.
"We're just so excited to have a Powerball winner in Colorado finally," said Kristen Shew, spokeswoman for the Colorado Lottery.
"What a year it has been for Colorado — the Rockies go to the playoffs, and we get a Powerball winner."
The Powerball jackpot was up to $20 million, and one ticket sold matched the five numbers drawn: 12-16-31-33-54, plus the
Powerball, 5.
It was not known where the winning ticket was sold, except that it was in the metro area.
Colorado has been participating in Powerball since 1991, but until Wednesday night never had a jackpot winner.
Shew said she doesn't know if the person who bought the ticket is the sole jackpot winner, as results from the other states
weren't known late Wednesday.
But she said more information would be released today.
"We're totally looking forward to meeting the winner and helping them through their next steps, Shrew said. "Somebody's life
definitely changed for the better tonight."
