DELTA — Although he’s won small prizes for playing Powerball since the state started it in 2001, a Delta man hit it big
Saturday when he got five out of five white balls and won $800,000.
Although the Colorado Lottery released the winner’s name in a news release, the man said in a phone interview that he would
rather not have his name made public.
The Lottery’s news release said the Delta man paid an extra dollar to multiply his winnings and used the Quick Picks option
when he bought the ticket at the Safeway store on state Highway 92.
Two other Coloradans won an $800,000 prize, one in Greenwood Village and the other in Greeley, according to the lottery news
release.
The Colorado Lottery quoted the Delta winner as saying he would use the money to make some investments, pay off some bills
and take his wife out for a nice dinner.
“Since he won, he says the smile has only left his face briefly, while he slept, and he’s not sure he wasn’t smiling
then, too,” the news release said.
