Calais Man Wins Top Prize In New Tri-State Lottery Game
Sunday, February 18, 2007 posted 09:37 AM EST
A 72-year-old man from Calais, Maine will be heading to Augusta this week to claim the top prize in a new Tri-State Lottery
online game called Paycheck.
George Bernard recently retired from his job as a bagger at a local supermarket and is on a fixed income. That income will
be a lot bigger now that he'll be collecting 25-hundred dollars a month for the next ten years.
Bernard plans to share his winnings with his sweetheart, 65-year-old Irene Gallway, who also just retired from her job at
the child care center at Washington County Community College.
Bernard recalled that Gallway chided him the week before about -- quote -- "wasting money on those stupid tickets." His reply
was that "if you don't put a line in the water, you can't catch a fish." Gallway later said she's glad Bernard didn't heed
her admonition.
