Stephen Stannard could not believe he had a winning ticket when he checked his numbers on the website.
"We can buy £20 in raffle tickets and end up with nothing," said the Worthing man who grew up in Brighton.
Mr Stannard runs a building firm with his brother, but with interest growing at £19,000 a month he said he was now planning
to throw away his tools.
On the Saturday Mr Stannard won the draw, he spent an evening in front of the television at home, unaware that he had the
winning numbers.
The next morning he checked his ticket and had to wake his wife and two daughters to make sure he was not dreaming.
Mr Stannard, who bought his winning ticket in Goring-by-sea, said he and his wife, Julie, 42, were so "shell-shocked" that
they went into the town centre and just walked around.
The couple's shopping list so far includes a computer, car, house, holidays, and shopping and makeovers for their daughters,
aged 11 and 14.
