New Mexico Lottery looks to cut costs
Friday, September 29, 2006 posted 12:11 PM EDT
ALBUQUERQUE - The state lottery is trying to cut costs and lottery chief Tom Romero says the lottery will rebid its contract
for online services by the end of the year.
A Rhode Island gaming services company, G TECH, has held the lottery’s online vendor contract since the lottery began a
decade ago.
The company receives 8.5 percent of ticket sales from online games.
But a report from a Santa Fe think tank, Think New Mexico, says the state pays G TECH a higher percentage of online ticket
sales than similar size lotteries in other states pay.
Think New Mexico suggested rebidding the contract among a list of recommendations to cut operating and administrative costs
and increase the percentage of revenue to college scholarships.
