Powerball Winner Takes $600,000 In Last Week's NC Lottery
Wednesday, June 21, 2006 posted 11:19 AM EDT
RALEIGH -- Last week's Powerball drawings resulted in five major wins for North Carolina ticket holders, worth a total of
$850,000.
One of the tickets worth $600,000 was sold in Goldsboro and one worth $200,000 was sold in Garner and has already been collected.
The biggest winning ticket for last Wednesday's drawing was sold at the Friendly Mart #10 on Route 111 in Goldsboro. The
winner matched all five white balls, but not the Powerball. The winner also chose the Power Play feature, which for last
night's drawing multiplied their $200,000 prize by three making the ticket worth $600,000. The winner has yet to claim the
prize as of Tuesday morning.
$200,000 Winner In Garner
Miguel Fernandez Aponte of Raleigh last week cashed in his winning Powerball ticket worth $200,000. He bought the ticket
at "Garner Gold N Pawn" on 5th Avenue in Garner. Aponte matched all five white balls, but not the Powerball. He did not choose
the Power Play feature that would have tripled his prize. After taxes, his prize is worth $136,000.
Other Winners From Wednesday
"L&L Food Store #14" in Nashville sold a ticket worth $30,000. In this case, the winner matched four white balls and the
Powerball. Because the winner chose the Power Play feature, their $10,000 prize was tripled. Two more tickets worth $10,000
that matched four white balls and the Powerball were sold in Indian Trail and Newport.
Saturday Winners Won $40,000
On Saturday, other winners were announced across the state, but the prizes were not as large as those from Wednesday.
Three people matched four white balls and the Powerball for $10,000, but since they had chosen to Power Play, their winnings
were multiplied by four. Their tickets ended up being worth $40,000.
Ola Gibbs of Roper purchased her ticket worth $40,000 at a Red Apple on Highway 264 in Roper. She plans to pay bills with
her winnings and invest in an Individual Retirement Account, say lottery officials.
Mary Guy of Parkton claimed her $40,000 prize today for her ticket purchased at an Express Stop in Raeford. Guy has not made
plans for her winnings, said a released statement from the lottery.
Jarmikca Jackson of Durham also cashed in his ticket worth $40,000 this week. He purchased his ticket at a Family Fare on
Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham. The NC Lottery says Jackson plans to buy a new truck.
Six players won $10,000 by matching four white balls and the Powerball, but did not Power Play. They are John Fragiacomo
of Wilmington, Shawn Kearns of Indian Trail, James Watters of Drexel, Daryl Smith of Kannapolis, Charles Bailey of Hampstead,
and Oral Singletary of Raeford.
Other Powerball winners from the June 14 drawing claimed their prizes this past Friday. They were: Richard Ferguson Jr. of
Newport, Chandra Bryant of Battleboro, and Robert Honeycutt of Spencer. They each won $10,000 by matching four white balls
and the Powerball. :::
