LUBBOCK, Texas -- A winning Texas lottery ticket has put police on the trail of the suspect in a DeKalb County murder.
Police had been searching for Kelsey Ruth since the murder of his ex-girlfriend, 27-year old Tai Morgan, in her home on Canary
Court on Tuesday.
DeKalb Police suspected Ruth fled to his home state of Texas so they sent wanted posters to television stations there.
At the same time those wanted posters with Ruth's picture and a shot of his car went out his mother was winning $3.4 million
in the Texas state lottery.
In a strange twist of fate, a reporter who had studied one of the wanted posters was sent to interview Ruth's mother about
her good fortune.
When he arrived at the house he recognized the car in the wanted poster and called police.
Officers arrived at the house and confirmed the car belongs to Ruth.
Investigators believe Ruth is now hiding in the Lubbock area and is armed and dangerous.
