Lottery contacted by attorney representing possible Powerball winner
Wednesday, May 24, 2006 posted 11:28 AM EDT
PIERRE, S.D. The South Dakota Lottery office was contacted today by a lawyer representing a person who claims to have the
winning Powerball lottery ticket worth nearly 117 (m) million dollars.
Spokesman Mike Mueller says the lawyer provided information about the winning lottery ticket that indicates it likely is
the legitimate winning ticket. The winning ticket for last Wednesday's Powerball drawing was sold in Pierre, South Dakota.
Mueller says the attorney from Pierre provided no information about the identity of the winner. Mueller says the office provided
the attorney with information about taxes, payment options and other subjects to help the possible winner decide how to handle
the largest jackpot ever won in South Dakota.
Mueller says such a process is normal, and no formal announcement of the winner is likely immediately forthcoming. But he
says the contact from the lawyer does heighten the excitement.
