Police Warn Public About Lottery Notices
Monday, May 22, 2006 posted 11:34 AM EDT
HAMILTON -- Police in Hamilton are warning residents that lottery notices showing up in local mailboxes should go right to
the trash.
Police said some people have received packets from outfits called the Crown International Lottery and the Strike Five Mega
Lotto proclaiming that they've won money.
But police spokesman Dave Crawford said the mailings are scams because in both cases, the "winners" are told they have to
pay a fee in order to collect their prizes.
Crawford said if you really won something, there wouldn't be a fee.
Police said checks enclosed with the notices should be destroyed, not deposited.
