Maine Lottery Sales On The Upswing
Saturday, April 29, 2006 posted 03:18 AM EDT
Someone who bought a ticket in Maine won Wedenesday's 8 and a half million dollar Megabucks jackpot. But that person isn't
the only one celebrating.
That's because sales of lottery tickets in Maine are up 11 percent, thanks to the Powerball game.
The big jackpot game is also having a spin off effect on sales for other games. Scratch tickets sales got a boost when the
Powerball jackpot grew.
The one negative impact Powerball has had is on sales of Megabucks tickets. They dropped 12 percent last year. But the popularity
of Powerball more than made up for that.
"The aggregate however has been an increase of 9 to 10 million dollars more than we had the previous year, so that's a very
positive sign," said Maine Lottery Director Dan Gwadosky.
Gwadosky says his office is still waiting for Wednesday's Megabucks winner to step forward. The ticket was sold in Oakland.
