(RALEIGH) -- The North Carolina Education Lottery has its first $100,000 winner.
Richard Garland of Newton won the ticket at a Conover gas station which is about 40 minutes north of Charlotte. The $100,000
prize is the lottery's largest on the Carolina Cash game.
He scratched off ten $10,000 prizes to equal the $100,000. The furniture factory employee hopes to buy a home with his winnings.
“Well, at the moment it's a pretty good feeling because the people that we're renting from are selling the one that we're
in and we were going to have to move shortly anyways,” Garland said. “Yeah, it's coming at a good time.”
Garland takes home $68,000 after taxes.
There was also a $5,000 and $10,000 winner on Thursday. Those tickets were sold in Fayetteville and Asheville.
