State lottery sales up ten percent in second quarter
Tuesday, March 07, 2006 posted 11:13 AM EST
MADISON, Wis. The state lottery says it had its second best quarter in its history due to sales from a huge Powerball jackpot.
From October to December, lottery sales totaled nearly 139 and a-half (M) million dollars -- second only to the quarter ending
June 1995 when sales were 139-point-eight (M) million.
The 340 (M) million dollar Powerball jackpot last October helped second quarter sales. That jackpot was won by an Oregon
family.
The strong quarter boosted sales in the first half of the lottery's fiscal year (July1-June30) to nearly 287 (M) million
dollars. Lottery director Michael Edmonds says those sales produced 86 (M) million dollar in tax relief.
