Natick Police Warn Residents About Lottery Scam
Tuesday, February 28, 2006 posted 12:54 PM EST
Natick Police are warning residents to watch out for a scam artist who claims to be from the Canadian lottery.
Its an old scam that nearly cost one elderly man $2,900.
The man recently stopped by the Police station to ask for directions to Western Union. A suspicious officer asked why, and
was then told about the Canadian lottery. The officer informed the man, the letter was probably bogus.
The man received a letter and check claiming he won $4,900 in a Canadian lottery. The letter asked the "winner" to send back
$2,900 for taxes.
The man was about to send the money when he was stopped by police. The "winning" check, which the man deposited into his
bank account, bounced.
